CertamenBot ("we", "us", "the site") is a free study tool for Latin Certamen and scansion. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using CertamenBot you agree to this policy.
Who can use CertamenBot
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Information we collect
- Account information: a username, email address, and a securely hashed password when you create an account. We never store your password in plain text.
- Usage data: aggregate counts of activity (e.g. questions generated, lines scanned, chat queries) used to show statistics and improve the tool.
- Optional profile data: preferences and an optional avatar image you choose to save.
- Technical data: standard server logs (such as request times and error logs) needed to operate and secure the site.
How we use information
- To provide and maintain your account and the study features.
- To send transactional email such as password-reset codes.
- To display your statistics and improve question generation, scansion, and chat quality.
- To protect the site against abuse and to fix problems.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not show third-party advertising.
Service providers
We use trusted third parties only to operate the service: a cloud host for the application and database, an email provider to deliver account emails, and AI providers to generate questions and chat responses. These providers process data only as needed to provide their service.
Data retention
We keep account information for as long as your account exists. You can request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time (see Contact below).
Your choices
- You can update your preferences and avatar in your account settings.
- You can request that we delete your account and personal data.
- You can stop using the site at any time.
Security
We use industry-standard measures including password hashing and encrypted (HTTPS) connections. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Accessibility
We aim to keep CertamenBot usable for everyone and to follow recognized web accessibility guidelines (WCAG) where practical. If you encounter an accessibility barrier, please let us know so we can address it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
